Coman, Jimmy

May 03, 2008
There was a widespread and heartfelt sympathy in the area on the death of Jimmy Coman, Loughlahan. Thurles and formerly of Coldfields, Two-Mile-Borris, on Sunday April 20th, in the loving care of the Matron and Staff of Thurles Community Hospital of the Assumption. Although ill for a short time his unexpected death was a shock to his family and friends. In his early 70's Jimmy was a most popular and much beloved man. In his farming and agricultural contractor career the late Jimmy was highly respected and his kindness and unselfish character enabled him to make friends easily. He was always on hand to help out when the need arose. A member of the great sporting family the Comans of Coldfields, the late Jimmy played hurling with the Moycarkey-Borris club in all grades up to senior and was also an accomplished athlete. He played midfield on the Two-Mile-Borris hurling team, winners of the Mid Tipperary No. 2 Junior Hurling Championship in 1957, a team that also included his brothers John and Paddy and some of his neighbours in Coldfields. He was a founder member of the revived Coolcroo Athletic Club in 1958 and served in the capacity as vice chairman of the club and was on the teams that won the County Tipperary novice and junior cross country championship in 1960 and also represented the club at senior level. He began his athletic career with the adjoining Moyne A.C. Large crowds attended the obsequies on both Monday night and on Tuesday and the conffin was adomed with the Moycarkey-Borris GA.A. and Coolcroo A.C. flags. A guard of honour was provided by members of the old Coolcroo A.C., the Moycarkey-Borris G.A.A. Club and friends. Following Requiem Mass in Thurles Cathedral, burial took place in St. Patrick's cemetery. Chief celebrant of the Mass was Father Martin Haves, Adm, Thurles, assisted by Fathers Thomas O'Connell, C.C., Gerry Hennessy, C.C. Thurles, Fathers George Bourke, P.P. Moycarkey-Borris, Joe Tynan, C.C. do; Jimmy O'Donnell, C.C., Clonoulty-Rossmore and Paudie Moloughney, Kiltegan Missions. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Breda, sons J.J., Fintan and Jack, daughters Tina, Louise and Ann; brothers John, Paddy, Joe and Justin, sister Mary, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his son, Eamonn (1982). Ar dheaslamh De go bhfuil a anam dilis. Courtesy of the Tipperary Star 3 May 2008
