Cummins, Padraic

September 30, 2004
The Late Padraic Cummins The Date, September 7th 2004 will forever be etched on the minds of the Cummins family, originally from Skreen, as another beloved brother, Padraic, passed to his eternal reward. The shock of his passing so soon after his brother, John P., was almost too much to bear but over the days since his passing so many lovely, funny and even sad memories have crowded all of his family's minds. Padraic was a staunch Fine Gael supporter and at one time stood for the Local Elections in Raheny, Dublin. Many a political argument took place at family gatherings regardless of the affiliation of others including his brother, Tommy who was a Fianna Fail councillor and a former Mayor of Sligo, a fact which Padraic was hugely proud of. Born in Skreen in August 1944, Padraic was educated at Doonflin N.S. and St Muirdeach's College, Ballina. Most of his working life was spent in Dublin from where he ran a successful electrical contract business. Padraic was a member of one of the most successful GAA club teams in County Sligo, St. Patrick's - Skreen/Dromard with whom he won numerous county championships. One of Padraic's other great loves was golf along with snooker. One of his ambitions was to compile a history of the Cummins/Kerins family which he had almost completed. The loss of Padraic has robbed his immediate family of a wise, loving and caring man who will be sorely missed by all of those who were privileged to know him. Padraic was laid to rest in the family plot at St. Mary's cemetery in his beloved Skreen. May he rest in Peace. Courtesy of the Sligo Champion September 2004
