Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

July 29, 2019

There’ve been warm tributes over the past few days for one of the club’s best-known supporters Patricia Dunleavy (née Feeney) who passed away last week. She had a profound effect on our GAA club as well as on the 'hundreds' of local groups and community groups she was involved with. Where she got that boundless energy from - we'll never know. Most of all - Patricia was a loving mum and wife. Our thoughts are with the Dunleavy family at this time.

Our senior men’s footballers made a winning start to the championship last Sunday when they recorded a 1-14 to 0-11 win against Eastern Harps in their opening group match, played in Collooney. Their next game is in two weeks time against Calry/St Joseph’s.

After winning the minor league shield recently, the minor footballers made a winning start to the ‘B’ championship with a spirited 2-17 to 5-6 win away to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool last week.

Well done to Sinead Regan, Michelle McNamara, Rachel Monaghan, Oda Carty, Rachel Quigley and the Sligo team who reached the All-Ireland intermediate football championship quarter-finals thanks to a three-point win against Limerick in Tubbercurry last Sunday. Sligo now play Offaly in the last eight this coming weekend.

Our girls intermediate footballers will resume their club championship campaign on August 11th.

We had several club players involved with the Sligo girls under 16 teams which lost to Louth in last Wednesday’s All-Ireland final in Mullahoran. Hard luck to Maeve Casserly, Lorraine Oates, Caoimhe Connor and Keela Scanlon, but it was a fine achievement to reach this stage of the competition.

Our girls under 14 footballers lost their opening ‘A’ championship game to CT Gaels last Monday on a final scoreline of 7-9 to 3-6.

The boys under 16 footballers beat Owenmore Gaels by 2-17 to 2-7 in the ‘A’ championship last Monday. They play St Mary’s at Kent Park on Monday evening in the championship. The two clubs meet each other again in the under 14 championship on Friday evening in Oxfield (7pm).

Our under 12 hurlers play Coolera/Strandhill in the league on Tuesday evening in Ransboro at 7pm.
