Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club Notes

May 27, 2019

Sunday 26 May 2019 saw the inaugural Nace ‘O’ Dowd Memorial Cup presented to Rockfield National School, Coolaney, who prevailed against Achonry National School in an exhibition game and Skills Competition after our Senior League match.

An initiative driven by Bridgie ‘O’ Dowd and ‘O’Dowd family, The Memorial Cup aims to educate and inspire young members of the club with the legacy of Nace ‘O’ Dowd, club native and one of the greatest Gaelic footballers born west of the Shannon.

We would like to thank the ‘O’ Dowd family and the respective national schools in Coolaney and Mullinabreena who facilitated the exhibition, one we hope will be a fixture for years to come.

Our Seniors had another impressive win on Sunday over Castleconnor in their latest league fixture, winning 4-18 to 0-09.

Kevin Giblin’s charges look forward to their showdown with neighbours Tubbercurry in the Kiernan Cup final.

The club is organising a scrap metal collection for Saturday the 3rd of June.

If anyone has any farmyard machinery, vehicles, (cars, bikes etc), or garden and household items they are looking to off load, contact any of the fundraising committee members for more information.

Our Junior team got their league campaign going away to St. Farnan’s on Saturday night,

Unfortunately, we were unable to come away with a win, but look forward to a hopefully fruitful league campaign.

Congratulations to our under 16 team for reaching their B league semi final with a win over Calry/St.Josephs on Tuesday last.

Best of Luck to The Sligo Minor team who take on Mayo on friday night in Markevitz Park, including club member Brian Marren, in the Connacht Championship.
