Connacht SFC: Tribe trounce Yeats men

June 03, 2018

Galway's Damien Comer is tackled by Eoin McHugh of Sligo during the Connacht SFC semi-final in Salthill

Galway will meet Roscommon in this year's Connacht final following a massive 4-24 to 1-12 win over Sligo at Pearse Stadium.

Sean Kelly's injury-time goal assured the hosts of a 1-15 to 0-6 interval lead and, even though Kyle Cawley pulled back a consolation three-pointer a minute after the restart, the floodgates opened thereafter: Ian Burke netted in the 50th minute and Damien Comer bagged a brace of goals in the 65th and 67th minutes.

Patrick Sweeney, Frankie Burke and Gary O'Donnell slotted the winners' last three scores and Liam Gaughan floated over a late free for the Yeats County, who now go into the second-round Qualifier draw.

The tone was set in the opening quarter as Kevin Walsh's charges registered eight of the first nine points, with Shane Walsh (2), Peter Cooke, Comer (2), Barry McHugh (2) and Kelly all on target and the Division One finalists never looked back as they sizzled their opponents in the sunshine and advanced with 21 points to spare.
