Conlon, Gerard

The Late Gerard Conlon The St. Ronan's club has been hit with the loss of another of its founder members. Gerard Conlon was among a group of men who founded St. Ronan's in January 1955. He played and won a Northern Final medal in 1959. Gerard was an active club member until he emigrated to London in April 1960. He married Mary Geogheghan in June 1960 and they traded in the off license business until they retired in Essex. Gerard was a member of the Geraldine's club in London and was the architect of a couple of memorable trips by the club. He was always a great help to anybody who went to London. His and Mary's door was always open to those who needed a helping hand. While he was away, he always wanted to keep in touch with home affairs and he looked forward to his holidays home to look up his old friends. Having just celebrated his 80th birthday, his death has come to a huge shock to all who knew him. Gerard is also survived by his daughters Philomena, Stella; son Kieran; sons-in-law Frances and Mark, and grandchildren Lauren, Rebecca and Michael. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald 8th January 2008
