The Late John McDermott The death took place at the County Hospital, Roscommon of Mr John (Jack) McDermott, Ballymurray, Roscommon. Aged 92, he was a member of an esteemed local family and he had been an employee of CIE for a number of years. He was a avid sports enthusiast and had the distinction of winning a number of competitions with Ballymurray and St Patrick's football clubs in the thirties and forties. He was playing member of the St Patrick's senior championship in 1942. He supported many community activities throughout his life and was noted for his sense of neighbourliness. Predeceased in September of last year by his wife, Mary, he is survived by nieces and nephews. Following Concelebrated Mass at St Patrick's Church, Knockcroghery and funeral took place to Gailey Cemetery. The celebrants of the Mass were Very Rev. Peadar Canon Lavin, PP, Knockcroghery and Rev. Donal Morris, CC, St John's. The member of the St. Dominic's GAA Club formed a guard of honour at the funeral. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald 5th February 2008
