The Late Michael Kelly The death occurred at Wallsgrave Hospital, Coventry, England on March 29th of Mr Michael Kelly, formerly of Longford House, Castlerea. Prior to emigrating in 1952, Michael, who was a keen sportsman, played football with the Tarmon football team. He was not long in England until his talents were spotted by the Shannon Rangers Football Club in Warwickshire, with whom he was to win many county championship medals along with his older brother Peter. He was a sub on the Warwickshire junior team, beating Mayo in the All-Ireland Junior finals of 1957. Indeed it was stated by many afterwards that had Michael been playing Mayo would not have won that final. He was an outstanding footballer, and sportsman, always kind and friendly, a true gentleman and a regular visitor to his native Castlerea where he loved to meet his many friends when he loved to talk about old times. He will be sadly missed by his son Michael ( England), brothers Peter (England), Val (Castlerea), sisters Beatrice (Wales), Nancy (Dublin) and Theresa (Castlerea), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends. His remains were removed on from McDonagh's Funeral Home, Castlerea to St. Patrick's Church, Castlerea and following Mass of the Resurrection burial took place in St Joseph's Cemetery, Castlerea.
