The Late Pat Reynolds Roscommon GAA is mourning the death of Pat Reynolds, former Roscommon goalkeeper on the All-Ireland U-21 winning team of 1966, writes Ian Cooney. The Late Mr Reynolds, formerly of Cloncullane, Elphin, had been living in Ballymurray. He worked as a storekeeper in roscommon County Council. The Highly rated goalkeeper played for Elphin, Roscommon and Connacht during his career. His brother Coman was part of the county's U-21 team in 1978. Roscommon defeated Galway (1-9 to 1-5), Leitrim (2-6 to 1-8), Mayo (1-15 to 0-9), Donegal(2-2 to 0-5) and Kildare (2-10 to 1-12) to become the first holder of the Clarke Cup in 1966. That team also contained household names like Dermot Earley and Jimmy Finnegan. "He came from a family steeped in GAA history. He was a most unassuming character and one of the nicest guys you could meet," said Connacht Council PRO and Elphin clubman Mick Rock. Having been involved with the Elphin management team a few years ago, he was also heavily involved in St. Joseph's GAA club during his later years. It was also a sad week for Elphin and Strokestown GAA clubs following the tragic death of Shane Kelly who played underage football for both clubs. The 24-year-old was part of the successful Feile team of ten years ago. He played U-12 and U-14 football for Elphin and later played with Strokestown.
