The late John Joe Beirne The death took place peacefully at his residence of Mr John Joe Beirne, Tyholland, Elphin on Thursday, March 8th 2007 aged 94 years. The late John Joe was a farmer all his life and maintained a great interest in farming right up to his death while also keeping up to date on the world of sport. Deceased was the last member of the 'All Black' football team of the 1930's, winning a county medal in 1937. A guard of honour was formed by members of Elphin GAA club. He is survived by his wife, Mary, nee Kelly; sons Gerry, home, and JJ, Galway; daughter, Breege Burke, London; daughter in law, son in law, eight grandchildren, brother in law, Pat Kenny, nieces , nephews, many other relatives and friends. His remains were removed from his residence to St Patrick's Church, Elphin. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated by Fr John Joe Gannon PP assisted by Fr Jim Murray and burial took place in adjoining cemetery. Courtesy of The Roscommon Herald 20 March 2007
