The late John Wynne It was with great sadness, that the people of Roscommon and surrounding areas heard of the death of Mr John Wynne. John passed away on May 10th, 2006, under the loving care of the staff of St. Joseph's ward, Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon, followed by his burial in St. Coman's Cemetery. John was originally from Kilteevan, but lived on the Circular Road since the late 1960's. He served the public for many years, working in the bar and grocery business up to 1978, when he finished a 15 year spell running Molloy's Bar in Main Street. Previous to that, John working in Coffey's Bar and Grocery, Lecarrow, for 12 years. John would probably best known, in recent years, for his dedicated work since 1990 as Church Sacristan and caretaker of St. Coman's Club, Abbey St. He enjoyed good health for many years and indeed only retired at the end of 2004, in his 77th year. John came from a farming background and he always retained a strong interest in, and love for the land, and of nature. He enjoyed saving the turf and his hobby of gardening. In his spare time also, John was a keen follower of sport, particularly Gaelic games. He won a county junior football championship in the 1940's with his beloved Kilteevan, and for many years he followed the fortunes of the Roscommon County team, and of St Joseph's after their reformation in the late 1970's. John was of gentle, good humoured, humble and kind disposition, and was a very popular friend and neighbour. He did many kind deeds during his life, and he had a deep religious faith, strongly devoted to practising his faith, and his devotion to Our Lady, in particular. John was also very interested in Irish Culture, and in particular, our traditional music. Above all, he was a wonderful family man, who was happiest surrounded by his family and friends in his home. He is deeply missed by his loyal and loving wife, Bernadette, whom he was happily married to for 39 years, and by his children, Raphael, Antoinette, Elizabeth and John Jnr, his brother Tom, sister Sr. M. Raphael, grandchildren, extended family and a large circle of friends. Ar dheis de go raibh a hAinm Dilis. Courtesy of The Roscommon Herald 30 May 2006
