The late Philip Heavey The death took place suddenly at his residence on Sunday, March 19th, 2006, of Mr Philip Heavey, Castlestrange, Athleague. Beloved husband of Nellie (nee Connaughton). News of his passing was received with great sorrow and sadness in his native parish and surrounding areas. He was the last surviving member of his family and was brother of Willie who played on the 1943 team in the drawn match with Cavan. Philip in his youth played football with Fuerty and was a life long president of the club. Fuerty football club and Athleague hurling club formed a guard of honour on both days, as a mark of respect and as a final tribute to him. He was a devout Catholic and lived his life by Christian values. He was renowned for his great neighbourliness and friendliness and he and his family are held in high esteem. A celebration had been arranged to celebrate his ninetieth birthday and his golden wedding anniversary but that was not to be as God called him to his heavenly home. He loved Irish music and was an accomplished singer. He loved Irish music and was an accomplished singer. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. His remains were removed from Smyth's Funeral Home to the Church of the Assumption, Fuerty.Concelebrants V. Rev John Leogue PP, V. Rev. Eugene McLoughlin PP, Roscommon. Burial afterwards in Fuerty cemetery. He is deeply regretted by his wife Nellie, sons Liam and Andrew, daughters Maura and Dorothy, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, relatives, large circle of friends and neighbours.
