Late Mr David Nolan The death took place last week after a long illness in the loving care of his wife Mary and family of Mr David Nolan, Market Square, Ballygar. His untimely death at age 53 had shocked and saddened the whole community. Known to his friends far and wide as Davey, he was a man who lived life to the full. A man of many interests including family, sport, hurling, his great love, racing, shooting and the game of cards in particular poker at which he was a very astute performer. Prominent in the building trade, he established a very successful plastering business securing major contracts over a wide area. A regular at the various race meeting he was a very successful punter. His gift to tell a good yarn made him very popular member of many racing, betting and card syndicates. Hurling particularly Ballygar hurling was his forte. Over the years he had been a player manager and great supporter of all the local teams. He was always ready to travel and provide transport. The youth team in particular will miss his presence. The huge crowds in Ballgar for the removal and funeral were an indicator of Davey's popularity. His generosity of spirit was indicated when, told he had terminal cancer, his comment 'better me than one of the lads'. He remains were removed form Moran's Funeral Home to St. Mary's Church, Ballygar. The funeral to the adjoining cemetery took place after concelebrated Mass of Resurrection. Hurling club members provided a guard of honour at both Resurrection and again for the burial. Deceased is survived by his wife Mary, home; sons Declan, David J, Derrick all Ballgar; daughter Geraldine, London; brother Kevin, Ballygar; sisters Mary Downey, Ballgar, Eileen Daly, Athlone.
