Cormican, Seamus

The late Mr Seamus Cormican A deep sadness descended on the parish of Athleague when news came of the death of Mr Seamus Cormican, a much loved and highly regarded member of the community. At his funeral Mass Fr Eugene McLoughlin, in a moving homily, summed up his life as a devoted family man, an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He referred to his love for his Church and how he lived a true Christian life. He spoke of his great community spirit and his readiness to help a neighbour at all times. A shy, retiring man, he nevertheless contributed, in his own quiet way, a great deal to the life of the village. A gifted hurler, he played for the local club and he was on the team that won the All-Ireland hurling championships in 1965 and scored a vital goal in that match. A dedicated musician, he played in the church folk group and in the local Comhaltas session. A committed Catholic, he was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in Athleague church. As a younger man he took part in the local amateur dramatic society. His remains were received by Fr Eugene McLouglin and Fr Liam Devine. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated by Fr McLoughlin. Burial took place to the local cemetery. He is deeply mourned by his loving wife, Bridie, sons, Enda, Mel and Jimmy; daughters, Sephine and Siuin, brothers, Tommy, Michael and Francis; mother-in-law Anne Marie; granddaughter Kerri; cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbours. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald 9 November 2005
