Former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran has revealed that he has been invited to get involved with the formation of the new Club Players' Association (CPA).

The idea had been mooted by former Monaghan selector Declan Brennan, but it has now gathered momentum and already plans are in place to develop the group further.

Writing in his weekly column for the Roscommon Herald, Curran admitted that there was a need to address issues concerning club players.

"I think it's a terrific idea and one I'd very much like to see coming to the fore in Gaelic Games in the near future," wrote Curran.

"The main aim for the CPA is to ensure a voice for club players across the country, with particular emphasis on formulating and implementing a much more realistic and common-sense approach to the current fixtures schedule.

"If the CPA can help to make changes to that, it will be a success already. I think the CPA will be unlike the GPA in its philosophy and objectives and I think it will be welcomed by the relevant GAA authorities."
