O'Donnell scoops Eircell award
March 12, 2001
Roscommon's Fergal O'Donnell was today (March 12) officially named as the Eircell GAA Player of the Month for February.
O'Donnell, who is captain of his county, was due to receive his award at an Eircell-hosted lunch today but this was postponed due to the Foot and Mouth restrictions.
Commenting on today's annoucement, Eircell's Corporate Relations Manager for Connacht/Ulster Deirdre McGreevy said: "Over the years, many outstanding men and women have been honoured through receipt of the Eircell GAA Player of the Month award.
"Fergal O'Donnell is a particularly deserving recipient of this honour. Not only is he a skilful and talented footballer, he is also an exceptional leader both on and off the playing field.
"His skills have been particularly apparent since he assumed the role of captain with the Roscommon senior football team, as the recent spirited league performances have demonstrated."
A native of Roscommon town, O'Donnell has won three county championships with Roscommon Gaels in 1994, '98 and '99. He first played for the Roscommon senior side in November 1992 and became a regular in October 1994. A member of the Garda Siochana, he is stationed in Boyle.
