Flanagan, Tony

The death occurred peacefully, at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, on Friday, November 8th, of Mr Tony Flanagan, Baslic, Castlerea. Predeceased by his father, Patrick; mother Mary; sister, Teresa and brother, Padraic. In his youth he was a handy footballer and attended Belcamp College. He played senior football with them and was selected to play at centre field on the Leinster Colleges team in 1954. He played minor football with St. Mary's in 1953 and won a county junior championship with them in 1959. Tony, playing at full forward scored two goals against Strokestown in the semi final. He also played county minor with Roscommon. He was a great racing fan. Tony was a very quiet person and a devout Catholic who will be sadly missed by his sister, Maura Eaton, brother-in-law Gerard Gearty, sister-in-law, Bea Flanagan, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. His remains were removed from Gaynor's Funeral Home to St. Patrick's Church, Castlerea on Sunday, November 10th with Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, November 11th, celebrated by Fr Micheal Donnelly and Canon Joe Fitzgerald. Burial took place afterwards in Rathmoyle Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
