Donohoe, Mike

December 31, 2013
It was with deep sadness and regret that officers and members of St. Aidan's GAA club learned of the death of Mike Donohoe. Mike was one of the founding members of the club and served as chairman on a number of occasions over four decades from the fifties to the eighties. At the time of his death, he was one of the club's vice-presidents. He was an outstanding footballer in his younger days and played for Ballyforan prior to the formation of St. Aidan's. He was a regular on the South Roscommon divisional team that competed for the Insurance Cup, a prestigious competition at the time. Mike also played hurling for Four Roads. After finishing his playing career, he coached many club teams, especially at underage level. He was a trainer of the 1966 county junior football title winning team, the first team to win a county title for the club. He was a great club supporter in latter years and, alongside his son Mark was a regular at club matches. Indeed he travelled many miles supporting his beloved Roscommon. The club extends its sympathy to his wife Maureen, and family Eamon, Niall, Miriam, Karen, Michael, Mark and David.
