O' Beirne, Tommy

The death took place on April 26th last in London of Mr Tommie O' Beirne, late of Carnagh in the parish of St John's, after an illness bravely borne. Tommie was born in June 1941 to the late Francis and Julia O'Beirne (nee O'Connor). He was the youngest of a family of five children, three boys and two girls. After completing his education, he was an employee of Gentex, Athlone and was regarded as a very reliable and hard working young man, and was well respected by colleagues. He was a lover of all sport, particularly Gaelic football.

He played for the St John's/Rahara team in the late fifties and early sixties, and was noted for his skills on the field. He emigrated to England in 1963, and he later played football with St Ann's in north London. He worked in the construction business for a number of years, and later became manager of two pubs in Tottenham, London and was a successful businessman. Predeceased by his brother Charlie in 1999, he is now survived by Ann, two sons Sean and Gary and daughter Petula, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, brother Michael, Kent and sister Maureen McCabe and Josephine O'Connor, Oldham, Lancashire. His funeral took place in London. Members of the O' Beirne family from Carnagh travelled over for the funeral. Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul on Friday evening, May 18th at 7pm in St John's Church, Lecarrow. May he rest in peace.
