The death took place last week of Mr Peter McLoughlin, Brierfort (and formerly Islands). His remains were removed to St. Therese's Church, Williamstown on Monday evening and following the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, burial took place in Kildaree Cemetery. he is survived by his wife, Eileen, daughter Frances; son John, granddaughter, Chloe; Frances's partner,Kevin brothers, Michael, Bernard and David; sister, Kathleen; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, relatives, neighbours and many friends. The sudden passing of Peter came as a huge shock, not just to his immediate family and loved ones, but to the community in general, where he was such a popular and much-loved figure. His friendly, gentle manner, his ever-obliging nature and his easygoing, good-humoured personality endeared him to everyone, and to say he was everyone's friend is no exaggeration whatsoever, with Peter being equally at home in the company of the younger generation. he was a skilled and talented tradesman and it is no surprise that his services were always in great demand.
He was a wonderful community man and among the many organisations which he served so well were the GAA Club, the Parish Council and the Hall countless hours in the Sports Complex, supervising and working with the young people he loved, and to maintain his own fitness, he participated regularly in the weekly badminton sessions. His annual Lenten Fundraiser, in form of a sponsored abstention from alcohol, brought in very welcome funds, year after year, for the Galway Hospice.
