The Late John Glancy

The parish of Aughrim and Kilmore and surrounding areas were thrown into shock and disbelief on Saturday morning, April 17th when news of the sad and sudden death of John Glancy of the Curries became known. John or 'Johnny G' ad his friends knew him, had no enemies, in this world. No person could ever say a bad word about John.
John went to national school in Aughrim and then secondary school in Carrick-on-Shannon. John was employed by Leitrim county council and was based in Carrick On Shannon.
John was a keen golfer and also loved his weekly game of cards on a Wednesday night with his friends with whom he also played astro-turf soccer. John was also a committed GAA player and played his final game for Kilmore junior team six days before his sudden parting.
John was also a keen Roscommon GAA supporter and attended numerous games. He also had a keen interest in the horses and loved an odd flutter on the dogs. John was a very popular, witty, quiet and generous person and this was obvious at his removal and funeral Mass when one of the biggest ever crowds were present at St. Bridgid's church in Dangan. One of the largest guard's of honour ever seen in Kilmore was carried out by young and old of Kilmore GAA club.
John will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to call him or her friend. To his mother Imelda, brother Padraig, sisters Breege and Mairead, grandmother, uncles, aunts, family and friends we extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of a true gentleman. In the words of a poem, Johnny G, you meant so much to all of us, you were special and that's no lie, you brightened up the darkest day and even the greyest sky. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
