McGann, Aidan

May 05, 2009
The Late Aidan McGann Aidan McGann formerly of Aughavinane, Bell Harbour, Clare and late of Ballinasloe, Roscommon who died on Saturday April 11th represented everything a GAA man should be. He was determined to represent and perform to the best of his ability in both hurling and football and blessed with an unbridled passion for the game that he passed on to those around him. As a player he represented his own club Michael Cusacks ( Clare) and Padraig Pearses (Roscommon) in football. His early prowess saw him represent Clare as a minor footballer. Few were as passionate as Aidan for the game of hurling and he represented Tubber (Clare) where he won a Centenary Cup, Padraig Pearses and Roscommon to the highest standards during his playing career, winning a National League medal with Roscommon. He won an All-Ireland Colleges medals both hurling and football. He was involved with numerous team and in 2002 played a part as both player and joint manager in the first of Pearses' three-in-a-row junior championship winning sides. He was a highly respected chairman of the senior hurling board in Pearses and also managed Roscommon senior hurlers for a period of time. He had a good humour and lust for lift that few could match and despite illness and still winning to make himself available for his club as a mentor at all levels. That he was a selector with Pearses senior hurlers up to his death is the measure of a man who lived life with a smile and a good word and never failed to put others before him for the good of the club and the community. Both his family and friends and the communities he was a part of throughout his life will sorely miss his wit, charm and work ethic. Months Mind Mass on Saturday May 9th in New Quay Church.
