"Managers are wrecked after the League"

Roscommon manager Kevin McStay supports the concept of April being designated as a 'club only' month but he is disappointed that the powers-that-be in Croke Park didn't write it into the rulebook.

As things stand, county boards have been left to their own devices to do what suits them best but McStay is enjoying his break from the inter-county scene.

"Managers are wrecked after the League," the Division 2 winning boss told The Irish Daily Star.

"We're at it since the first weekend in December non-stop - no Sundays, training twice a week, gyms, meetings, you're fairly flat out.

"April is a great chance to catch your breath."

That said, McStay understands why his Galway and Mayo counterparts have indicated that they will be assembling their squads this month.

"We (Roscommon) play two club league and two championship matches in April.

"We were committed to doing it. The Connacht draw was favourable. We're not out until May 26.

"There wasn't a hope Mayo and Galway would agree to this. Sligo and Leitrim are out before that again. There are teams out at the beginning of May.

"I said it to Paraic Duffy, how did they put this out about April and didn't legislate for it? It's too complex to leave to every county to sort out.

"I'm disappointed they didn't legislate for breaks."
