Clann ready for action

April 11, 2018

Clann nan Gael manager Fergal Shine admits that it is a little strange preparing for the opening round of the Roscommon SFC in April.

The former kingpins face the current kingpins as Clann take on defending champions St Brigid's in this weekend's first round clash.

They could not have asked for a tougher opener, but Shine told the Westmeath Independent that they have been working hard for this game.

"It's a little strange to think we are preparing for the club championship in the second week of April. It's a new experience for everyone involved," said Shine.

"It is hard to gauge where we are in terms of our preparation. We were beaten in our last league game so from that point of view, we were a little disappointed with how we performed in that game."

He added: "We are confident in our own ability and I expect this game to go down to the wire. St Brigid's are the title holders they have an array of talent in their starting 15 so it goes without saying we are expecting a very tough challenge."
