Magheracloone back on pitch

Magheracloone have decided to return to the playing field.
Magheracloone has ended their self-imposed exile from club competitions but the Monaghan club intends to do everything in its power to clear the name of the player accused of sectarian abuse against an opponent.

Last week Magheracloone took the decision to withdraw its teams from all competitions after the Monaghan CCC handed an eight-week ban to one of its players for alleged sectarian abuse of Ballybay and county player Drew Wylie during a league game.

They subsequently refused to field a team for a league match last weekend but have now decided to return to the playing field despite the fact that the county's Hearings Committee upheld the eight-week suspension of their player.

In a statement to the Irish Independent, the club explained: "Following a well-attended meeting of club members, the club executive decided to resume playing activities at all levels with immediate effect.

"The player at the centre of the allegation spoke at the meeting and urged the club to resume playing whilst the efforts to clear his good name are ongoing.

"The player is appealing his suspension to the Ulster Council and forward to the DRA if necessary."
