Kildare to appeal fine

A row breaks out between Monaghan and Kildare players before the half-time whistle at Clones
Kildare county board will be appealing the €5,000 fine imposed on them by the CCCC arising from the half-time brawl that marred last Sunday's Allianz Football League game against Monaghan in Clones.

Describing the fine as "severe" and "harsh", Kildare chairman John McMahon said: "We don't condone the incident that happened, but we need to put the thing in context. It was a game played generally in good spirit."

McMahon also confirmed that selector Niall Carew would be contesting a proposed four-week suspension, but that Brian Flanagan - who received a straight red card - would be accepting his punishment of a one-match ban.

Monaghan secretary Sean McKenna said his board would be "making absolutely no comment whatsoever" on whether they would be contesting the €5,000 fine levelled against them.
