Clontibret Camogie News

September 07, 2010
There was tremendous excitement and celebrating in Clontibret on Sunday evening last when the victorious senior camogie team arrived back with Corn Gael Linn following a comprehensive win, over Inniskeen, in the O Rourke Oil Senior camogie championship final. A few hours later the Clontibret minor footballers also arrived back flushed with county success and the celebrations continued into the small hours (by all accounts!). Prior to that, on Sunday morning, the Under-12 girls won their final while on Saturday the Under-12 boys football team collected the silverware in their final! So it was a proud weekend to be a GAA person in Clontibret.

Well done to the camogie players who made it 6-in-a -row after a very tough and keenly contested championship campaign. Indeed the final was their 4th championship match in ten days due the fact that fixtures were re-scheduled after the county team's All-Ireland victory. Congratulations to Shauna Finnegan who was deservedly awarded the 'Player of the Match' award. A particular mention must be made of Aidan Kerr who came onboard as team trainer following the departure of John Greene to Australia in August. Aidan received a 'baptism of fire' which he took in his stride!! Many thanks also to Dympna, Arthur (Snr and Jnr), Rosemary, Catherine and Sean who were so obliging when asked to officiate at matches during the championship.

However, following Armagh's victory in the Nancy Murray Cup, there now is a spate of Armagh League fixtures and Clontibret can anticipate at least 2 matches next week in addition to their Ulster championship match which takes place on Saturday 18th. So no sitting back on the laurels yet girls!!

This Sunday the under-age players and their parents head to Croke Park where the crème-de-la-creme of camogie will be served up with 3 All-Ireland finals taking place. With Cork gone from the equation many of our younger players have still not declared where their allegiance will lie but no doubt they will enjoy the day!!

An important meeting regarding the Wicklow exchange will take place on Monday evening at 8-00pm in the Community Centre. All parents and exchange participants are asked to attend.

Senior Panel: Aideen Greene (Cpt), Marie and Aisling Greenan, Rosita and Shauna Finnegan, Shauna, Tara and Aisling McElvaney, Donna and Amy Moen, Karen, Ailbhe and Orlaith Boyle, Catherine Tomany, Nicola Morgan, Hannah Tedore, Eleanor McQuaid, Helen Hughes, Angela Kerr, Joanne McSkane and Demi Mone
