2019 McElvaney’s Intermediate Championship:

Attention switched to McElvaney’s Intermediate Club Championship season which got underway last Saturday evening in Inniskeen as Corduff Gaels played neighbours Aughnamullen. On what was an incredibly windy evening in Inniskeen Corduff finished stronger advancing to the next round of the championship. Corduff playing against that strong wind in the first half were first off the blocks with 2 frees converted by Fergal Hanratty by the 7th minute. Aughnamullen guilty of many wides eventually penetrated the Corduff defence and uped the tempo to score 2 points in quick succession in the 17th and 18th minute levelling matters. Corduff experienced a barren 16 minute period without a score while playing the “possession game” for long spells in the Aughnamullen end. Indeed it was another free converted by Corduff captain Hanratty in the 23 minute which put the side ahead. Aughnamullen quickly cancelled that score by adding 2 of their own going ahead 0-4 to 0-3. A late injury time minor by Keith McEnaney levelled matters again at the interval.

Wind assisted Corduff started more energetic than their opponents after the resumption with Fergal Hanratty on target while Jason Hand blasted home the first goal of the match. As in the first half Aughnamullen were slow to make an impression on the scoreboard taking them 11 minutes to add on a point plus 2 more before adding a goal in the 20th minute pushing them ahead on 1-05 to 1-07. A Padraic Keenan point reduced the margin to the minimum. Aughnamullen registered their final score in the 24th minute. The introduction of Sean and Gavin McEnaney in the final quarter gave Corduff a boost with Gavin scoring 1-01. Keith McEnaney and Michael Connolly also added points in injury time . In all Corduff outscored Aughnamullen by 1-3 to no score in the final 10 minutes winning on a final scoreline of Corduff 2-09 Aughnamullen 1-08. Congratulations to team and Management Darragh,Fra and Brian on this victory. Details of next round to be released.

Mallon’s Sausages U17 Final:

Corduff got off to the perfect start with a Thomas Sheerin point from the throw in which was immediately cancelled out the other end by Clontibret. Both sides traded scores as Diarmuid Marron popped over one for Corduff and Clontibret converted another free the other end putting the sides level 0-2 by the 8th minute.

Clontibret then enjoyed a period of dominance scoring 5 unanswerd points. Corduff responded with a point from Pádraig Clinton. Clontibret added 2 more points going 0-9 to 0-3 up. However despite Clontibret's dominanace and possession they were also guilty of missed opportunities in front of goal until they finally hit home a goal in the latter stages of the half while in dramatic fashion at the other end Corduff's Jack Mohan converted a free and found the corner of the net just on half time which narrowed the margin to Corduff 1-04 Clontibret 1-10.

In a very energetic display Corduff got back on back on track in the early exchanges of the 2nd half and edged their way back into the game with Diarmuid Marron on target outscoring Clontibret by 2-00 , one of the goals a penalty which he converted having been pulled down. The sides were now level on 3-5 to 1-11 and Diarmuid, Corduff's only scorer in the half tapped over another point to put Corduff ahead . The momentum was now with Corduff but Clontibret bounced back and ran up 6 points . Corduff's defence was once again under attack and it took super defending by the defence and saves by  keeper Ryan Walsh to prevent Clontibret finding the net. Both sides traded scores in the dying moments.Final score Corduff 3-09 Clontibret 1-20.
