SFL final: Ballybay retain title

November 27, 2017

Ballybay players and mentors celebrate with the SFL silverware.

Ballybay 2-14

Scotstown 1-9

Ballybay retained the senior football league title and in the process denied Scotstown completing the senior double as well as getting a modicum of revenge for their defeat in the senior championship semi final by the same opposition earlier in the season.

This game looked to be over as a contest at half-time when Ballybay led by 2-8 to 0-3, the goals by Thomas O'Neill and Hugh Malone, but Scotstown fought back in the 3rd quarter to narrow the gap to 4 despite being reduced to 14 players with the straight red card dismissal of Frank Caulfield 5 minutes into the 2nd half.

Ballybay rallied though in the closing stages to outscore Scotstown by 6 points to 2 to clinch a deserved victory. Scotstown finished the game with 13 players when substitute Ferghal McPhillips was red carded in the final minute of stoppage time.
