just to put it out there what is the county board thinking about with some of their fixtures ?? for example NOM have been fixed twice on a fri night at 7pm which we will all agree is a very early time for people leaving work . also they could even fix the game in pairc t but the likes of castletown instead. this also has a effect on supporters attending too ! why cant the games be on during the weekend like most previous years or are the county board trying to make it more difficult for the bigger teams like nom and ashbourne who they go and fix on a thursday night for the next round ! ridiculous ! theres more games on in the championship next round on thursday than saturday , wheres the logic in this ? royaler74 (Meath) - Posts: 31 - 15/05/2013 15:42:03 1384548 Link 0 |

i suppose the main reason is that the Meath Seniors have to be allowed 14 days by rule before the Leinster Championship game and I'm Mick ODowd had made this request to County Board with Meath playing on Saturday 15th the more time the County Players have to recover the better for the County Team. There normal is a reason for these things and County Board while on the surface may seem to do strange things there is usually a reason. whats wrong with a mid week game, its a bank holiday wkd and players have other things they could possibly do and have a life aswell, maybe have a few days break away! games have to be played other than every weekend to give people a chance to do other things with families. play the games and get on with it. If you work in dublin you have to go early one day, start a bit earlier or make up the hour or so again, the economy will hardly collapse!!!!!!!!!! 14forward (Meath) - Posts: 39 - 16/05/2013 10:26:06 1384940 Link 0 |

Dermot1 - certaintly nothing wrong with Castletown -lovely people. However, the pitch is quite small by most standards and quite narrow. About mid-week matches! Its fine for folk working and getting time off but what about third level students doing exams and the additional cost of coming from Dublin (or whatever college) in mid-week. We are in a recession after all being taxed to the hilt with most of our youth emigrating. The CB should recognise the cost implications or are they like our politicians?-living in cuckoo land. I can quite understand that from a social point of view Friday/Saturday evenings being suitable! browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 16/05/2013 17:22:43 1385289 Link 0 |

One club asked not to be fixed mid-week due to 6 off their team working in England who were commuting every weekend for training/games. But alas it fell on deaf ears and they were fixed midweek in the second round. Half the lads got home the rest didn't. These lads are showing commitment to the club and the GAA, can't find work here so I wonder why they bother. The GAA and clubs in the main have an issue with emigration and lads working across the water so I can't see why some arrangements can't be made. It's also costing clubs valuable resources. Diego -I agree with you and the CB that can put matches for 2 to 3 weeks before county matches (and I'm including minor matches!)when there is no requirement or nor is it necessaary to do so. They even put matches off for weekends away! browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 17/05/2013 13:47:33 1385663 Link 0 |

Club football in Meath is a joke ! County players were not allowed to play with their clubs again this weekend (4 weeks before the Leinster c'ship). kingofclubs (Meath) - Posts: 350 - 20/05/2013 10:25:28 1387017 Link 0 |

Couldnt agree more king of clubs did make this point on another thread but glenny told me not to be moaning about it, but the fact is that wouldnt be accepted in other counties but here clubs just seem to take it lying down. And you are correct as regards the league, results in div. 1 and 2 are meaningless most league matches this time of year are nothing more than glorified challenge matches. In louth 2 weeks ago they had a challenge match arranged which was to clash with a round of the league and the league matches were brought forward a night so the county players were available to the clubs, in meath challenge would go on and clubs would just have to play without county men. johnsee (Meath) - Posts: 389 - 22/05/2013 09:05:43 1388701 Link 0 |

totally agree, players stopped from actually playing footbal is hard to believe, surely a competitive game would improve them, brings the best out in team mates and opponents aswell and if we are suppose to be in a development stage then lets try to imrpove the club scene, one wont work without the other........ 14forward (Meath) - Posts: 39 - 22/05/2013 10:32:32 1388747 Link 0 |
