Hi all in the midst of all the management saga I was just wondering if anybody has any ideas on New players that should be brought in to the panel to make us stronger for the championship
In my own opinion Mickey Newman should be brought in to fill the gap of Joes departure and Eoghan Reilly should be given a go at midfield. I also heard Crawford is playing well and yes I know he has retired from county football but if Boylan is reappointed anything can happen.
I also think if Boylan is back in the frame David Lyons will get a phone call for goals.

Lads criticise Banty for not giving enough new players a chance. Some lads even claiming he's preventing them from getting their chance to shine.

What do we want the new manager to do?

Bring back Crawford...

Sure why not bring back Moyles while we are at it. And isnt Trevor Playing well for Skryne too......

Imagine if Banty brought back a player who would have been retired, would people have encouraged that?.. oh wait,....Grah.........

Jinxie that not what I meant I think there are maybe 9/10 top quality players on this team and by introducing some players that might be better in some positions may indeed strengthen this team in places of weakness . Banty brought in some great finds like gilsenan lenehan menton etc but players like mark ward and Brian Meade seem to be immobile and more attacking pacey players could work better in these positions. Also the likes of Farrell and queeney have been given every chance of proving themselves at county level especially no that Joes has left but they in my own opinion are not able to step up and be counted for. these kind of positions need to be looked at and strengthened for the Wicklow game in order to progress

I know what your getting at. But I think you maybe under the illusion that Banty going will see an influx of new talent and I just dont think its there.

Two of the players youve mentioned,
-Mark Ward
-Brian Farrell

They have been selected by the past FIVE Meath managers. That in itself highlights the fact that theres not a massive amount of untried talent out there.

Each year someone comes along and impresses in the Senior or inter or even u21 championships and people make a case for them. But there are very view out there who have been consistantly perform to that level over a few years that 2 or 3 of the managers have missed.
Im not saying theres none, there may be one or maybe two, but its definatly very few, and thats the problem.
New manager, same squad. At least thats how its been for 6 or 7 years now.

I am not sure where you get your information from but I have been told that Crawford has not played a single game for Dunboyne this year and I doubt if Boylan would overlook his own clubman Gallagher for the goals considering that he picked him for International Rules when he was not part of the county set up.

Or maybe the same little voice that gave him the Boylan/Banty gossip at Bingo also told him Crawford was playing well lately. Bigjoeshow is on a roll either way!

Jinxie, despite these players getting selected by the last 5 managers, what does this prove? Nothing. Doesnt make it right or wrong. In my opinion, there should be a few guys given their chance, same chance all these players have got over the last number of years. Also, I would love to see peadar returning, let Banty see if he can settle him again, brilliant talent. We dont have ONE SINGLE PLAYER on the Meath team playing junior football, surely there are a few players in this worth a try.

im all for bringing in new faces, but has it not occurred to anyone that we have had by in large the same panel for 5 years under 4 managers? 4 different managers aren't coming in picking lesser players on purpose? be careful when judging a youngster playing for his club running rings around lads at junior level or senior players after having a week of hard training

A point I've raised here before in relation to Banty is that he actually doesn't consider players from junior clubs. Someone should tell Banty that only 4 of last weekend's minor team came from senior clubs, 4 of last years team, 8 in 2010 and 7 in 2009 & 8 in 2008.

It wouldn't matter that the rest of these lads play IFC & JFC if the county had proper development squads and strength and conditioning programs to keep these lads involved with post-minor and as a bridge to U21 and Senior.

I would like to see some of the younger lads get a chance although maybe it is too close to championship with no competitive games between now and then. In fairness to Banty he has thrown young talent in and they have proved him right - Lenihan, Gilsenan, Menton and, to a lesser extent, Tobin and Forde this year. I Mark O'Sullivan still on the panel? I was very impressed by him last year. Young Dalton also looks like a great prospect and Donal Keogan has played well anytime I've seen him with his club. I don't know what the story is with David Lyons but it is a joke that he is not involved. A much better goalkeeper than Gallagher but maybe there are circumstances with him that we don't know of. Brian Sheridan is another who seems to be playing well of late for his club. Midfield is the real problem at them moment. I would like to see Menton or Eoin Reilly involved here. We need to look get away from having two tall midfielders (especially when kick outs are poor) and focus more on players with engines that can run and drive the team along. Or at least have a mix of one big man and one runner. I hear Conor Gillespie is in good form with Summerhill and although he has rarely impressed in the county jersey he is worth another chance. Thinking of players outside the panel, what about John Donegan?

John Donegan is injured a good bit i think..JB O Reilly back from oz, excellent footballer, better than whats in the county set up at the ,imute, but playing with "weaker" club wont help the cause for him

I would like to see Newman brought in,but it seems that's impossible,the guy with the biggest claim(who is not there),would be Dalton.

men_of_49 i agree with you about Conor Gillespie he should have got more game time in the league ,it looked at times that Banty was afraid to persist with a player outside of Gilsenan and Menton most of the new players never got a real run in the same position to realy see if they were good enough or not . Shane o rouke is still having problems with his hips doubtful for Wicklow but fingers crossed. I was amazed banty didn't try menton in midfield but who would replace him in the backs? Maybe an option is to use him as center half kind of a third midfielder. Men of 49 David Lyons was seemingly rang by banty during the league and from talking to him he and banty don't see eye to eye shame really as he is quiet commited to football as seen when he is travelling home from England for club games.
I hope all this saga bout management will give banty and panel the kick they needed. Conor gilespee has never really impressed me at county level but with mark ward having suspension at the moment and Meade maybe he will be tried in the challenges before Wicklow although I would love to see someone New come in for midfield as I think we have exhausted most options at this position.

sean tobin has been impressing of late with his performances for simonstown ... i know he might not be at county standerd yet but surely he'd be a better option in the long run than meade or ward

Thats exactly what the panel and managment need asap.

Maybe a meeting, clear the air, everybody get what the want off their chest, then leave it all in the room behind them when its over and draw a line in the sand.
Then get out on the pitch and get back to playing a bit of football.
In any club or county team, the priority or the players and manager should be on the pitch, not in meetings or voting polls.

I actually believe that the three week break that the players will effectively have before returning to the county set up will stand them in good stead. I would imagine the players were glad to get back to their clubs and get a break from inter county training. By the time they return after 2nd round of club champioship on w/e of 28/29 April hopefully all this fallout will be old news and they can put a big push on for Wicklow game.
