Yeah but he is a main stay not someone you throw on when game almost gone.

You clearly have not seem his performances in club games this year! If you went around the county with no knowledge of age or past years information you would say that he should be part of the county panel as an outfield option ! I'm not saying he should start but he could be an option if needed !

I'll admit I spent way too much time in the sun yesterday. For a second I thought Reilly could be an impact sub like mc mennamin

Fair enough lol..Sean Tobin is the nearest thing we have to him..Now I will be honest being a seneschalstown man I do have a soft spot for Joe! He still is our talisman! But I think he could offer something

It's funny seeing lads saying that throwing a 33 year old big man in on the edge of the square for the last few minutes of a game is some sort of revolutionary tactical move. It's easily the oldest, most unoriginal, predictable tactic there is, and there's a reason it's not used any more at the top level.

How many top level inter county games have been won recently by a 60th minute sub sitting on the edge of the square, catching a hail mary ball in front of the goals and shooting/laying it off for another lad to score? Don't say Kieran Donaghy, because he's far more mobile and dynamic than Big Joe ever was (and I say that as a big fan of Joe, was sad to see him dropped).

I agree...I think I would pick Sean. He's good under pressure when stakes are high.

No way!!!! If you think about it, if a team are potentially ahead by two, three or four points in the last few minutes of the game they are most likely to be set up ultra defensive to see the rest of the game out. No matter the quality of the player inside (Joe in this case) there is little or no chance of yielding a score unless you kick from distance or run straight at the defense. Joe on the the edge of the square would not be a viable attacking option.
His skill set does not suit the type of player we need to be producing and DEVELOPING in order to be remotely competitive in the near future. An absolute handful at club level but not applicable for the county scene. Square peg, round hole. A great servant to Meath none the less, always a big admirer.

Don't know how many games but he could be a plan b or c for that matter ? I still think he can offer something worthwhile!

Replying to Kingofthehill..............Yes absolutely spot on.......I think you hit the nail on the head when you put "developing" in block capitals.....We need to look forward from here. Big thanks to Joe and all the other lads who just happened to wear the jersey when Meath football was low. This is now the beginning of a new era for us, and DEVELOPMENT is the key.
