Replying To MeathIRE:  "I think the championship is wide open this year, a lot of teams look like they could really compete against one another. Moynalvy look like the dark horses for me. We will have to see have Ratoath learnt from last years disappointing campaign, they cant just rely on their county players like last year! Other lads didnt step up. Cant see NOM winning it, Alan Forde will be a huge loss and they dont seem to have anything coming through from under age. Dunboyne really had a chance last year to win the Keegan cup but they didnt make key decisions against Simonstown and were punished. They have a new manger this year which could make the difference and give them a little bit of bite that is needed when the going gets tough. Kells have really improved the last few years and have been very close, can they go that extra step this year? I think they need to find depth in their squad to compete and go the whole way. Nash is a huge loss to Simonstown, he really took games by the scruff of the neck last year when games needed to be won and drove the team on in the middle of the park. I dont think they will repeat their heroics this year. Hopefully we can see some exciting games in this years SFC, and maybe some big upsets."
I think you have a good assessment there! It could be fairly open and the odds probably refelct that! I fancy Don Ash to go well and to have learned a bit from last year. Na Fianna, Dunboyne, Simonstown, NOM will all be there or there abouts. Ratoath will be interesting to watch. No doubt if they play to their potential they will be hard to beat - 7 county footballers and 2 county hurlers is a problem in itself - they may not be around much in the preparation!

Jasus 25/1 for cilles is crazy price if this year hasn't taken it out of them. I thought around 12/1 would be fair price for them. I'll have a bit of that and maybe a double with the bracks to win intermediate, I wont be seen for a fortnight if both me clubs were to win. :)

cillies had a big year with little break, they may struggle a little in senior this year as a result.

I think 25/1 is about right. Can't see them getting out of their group

Anyone hear of John McDonald being involved with Ashbourne this year? Worked with Johnny Sexton and Rob Kearney before. Was involved in the infamous canal incident in 1998 too

Ratoath are the ones to watch for me but I also think Dunboyne have some unfinished business to attend to this year. Also wouldn't rule out Simonstown, Nash would be a big loss to any club but he's only one man. Simonstown have been there or thereabouts for the last couple of years now with a decent enough squad, they showed what they can do last year but the huge challenge of putting together back to back victories might go against them.
Cilles at 25/1 does look a bit tempting though.

To be honest, not only have I not heard of John McDonald being involved with Ashbourne, I have not even heard of John McDonald! I have googled him but nothing comes up.
I am intrigued by the "infamous canal incident" though. Being the morbid individual that I am, my first thought was of the body that was found in the suitcase in the canal, but I guess you are not talking about that! Please tell us more.

Has any club ever come up from Inter and win the Senior Championship the following year?

No Club has ever followed up an intermediate title by winning a senior the next year.

Best efforts were Bohermeen beaten by Summerhill in 1974 Final and

Na Fianna also beaten by Summerhill in 2103 decider.

Ah that's right. That was a local derby. Aren't Na Fianna based around the Enfield area around the Kildare area?

They are. The queenys would be their main stay players

Meath and Kildare had some great battles down through the years. Who could forget the three match saga in 1997? Remarkable both Meath and Kildare have played 37 times in the Championships and it's even steven with both counties winning 15 matches each and there have been 7 draws. Meath have had the upper hand recently winning the last two Championship matches.

yet kildare's general record of winning things has been far worse than meaths.
