Late goals flatter St Ultan's
June 09, 2008
Drumconrath's Jamie Myles
Drumconrath fell to another IFC defeat with two late St. Ultan's goals proving crucial at Kilberry.
St Ultans 2-10
Drumconrath 0-7
Severely depleted Drumconrath still missing Wayne Reilly and with stalwart Pete McMahon crying off with a toe injury while Leighton Irwin and Chris Tighe holidaying and not too mention having 4 players out with suspension gave Championship front runners an almighty fright in Kilberry before succumbing to a late charge after what was a heroic effort.
Ultan's drew first blood but Drumconrath displayed great battling capabilities and with three Jamie Myles points and one from Padraig McMahon led a stunned Ultan's by 0-4 to 0-3 at the break. With Ronan McGahon and John McDermott both playing their first IFC match in four years giving great support to the highly impressive Terry Skelly, Jamie Myles, Peter Tighe, Stephan Crosby, Sean McMahon and Graham Tighe the latter two making the Intermediate debuts.
Ultan's soon levelled and went 0-7 to 0-4 ahead but two more Myles points narrowed the gap to a single score as Ultan's defended in numbers. A breakaway goal in the 53rd minute finally gave the Bohermeen outfit some breathing space and another on 57 minutes sealed the win as Austin Hickey replied for Drumconrath. In the six minutes injury time played following lenghtly delays after injuries to Skelly and Wesley Byrne Ultans tagged on three more points to give the scoreboard a slightly flattering look as Drumconrath introduced Paul Tighe home on a break from Scotland another who wasn't seen in a Red shirt for a number of years.
Drumconrath - Sean Kane; John McDermott, Kevin Flanagan, Peter McEvoy; Wesley Byrne, Peter Tighe, Paul Carey; Austin Hickey (0-1), Terry Skelly; Ronan McGahon, Jamie Myles (0-5), Graham Tighe; Stephan Crosby, Sean McMahon and Padraig McMahon (0-1) Subs Paul Tighe for Byrne, Thomas Carolan for McEvoy
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-16
Drumconrath 1-8
Drumconrath who had lost 5 players to the Intermediate put up a decent display before going under to a good Don/Ash outfit in the JFC C. Points from Thomas Dardis (0-3), Kevin Dardis and Kevin Farrelly seen them trail by just two at the break. Don/Ash hit 6 without reply in the third quarter to assure the win but Drumconrath with Paul Tighe now at midfield gave them something to think about as points from Tighe, Thomas Dardis and Timmy Reilly where followed by a Dardis goal to narrow the gap to two points but Don/Ash steadied and notched the last three scores of the game. Best for the Reds where Damien Glass, Eoin Sherlock, Timmy Reilly and Tighe.
Donaghmore/Ashbourme - Bernard McMahon; John Lynch, Sean Reilly, Gavin McEvoy; Michael OG Gallagher, Eoin Sherlock, Damien Glass; Thomas Carolan, Patrick Carolan; Kevin Dardis (0-1), Thomas Dardis (1-4), Timmy Reilly (0-1); Kevin Farrelly (0-1), Alan Dunne, Paul Tighe (0-1). Sub Steve Elbert for Gallagher
