Daly supports Champions League-type format for football
September 26, 2007
Hot on the heels of a call for a Champions League type system to be introduced for hurling, Croke Park's Head of Games Development Pat Daly says a football version would also be a good idea.
Just 24 hours ago, Ned Quinn, head of the Hurling Development Committee, stated that a Champions League type format was inevitable for hurling.
"It was interesting to see Ned Quinn's comments strongly articulating the need for a Champions League type format in hurling," said Daly. "If something like that makes sense in hurling there is no reason why it wouldn't make sense in football.
"If you had four groups of five on a provincial basis - two home and two away games - you'd know exactly when the county was playing.
"Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. Ideally you want to get a system that will give you the two best teams in the country," added the Waterford man.
