Thomas Martin added Rathkenny's fourth of the evening with a super effort from the right wing before Walterstown added their second point of the half from a close in free, three minutes into first half stoppage time. Rathkenny replied from the kick out with a great score from Ivan Lenehan to lead by three at the break.

However they kicked four wides in ten minutes, their only reward being a 41st minute point. Rathkenny got their eighth point on 44 minutes through Brian Meade. Walterstown came in search of a goal but resolute Rathkenny defending kept them at bay going into the final five minutes. Scores on 56, 57 and 59 minutes left two between the sides.
