Trim began their championship quest in Dunshaughlin against St Pats. A bright start with a point from Michael Lowther settled the town side who began to play free flowing football. Trim 0-15 St. Pats 1-7 Trim missed a flurry of chances then and relied on the free kicking of Paul Gilsenan and Mark McCormack to stay in touch. Then came St. Pat's with a rally of scores with a goal to top it off. They went to the break with just that crucial goal keeping them ahead by three points. The second half saw a fluent Trim performance. Attacks were being built from the half back line and cut through St. Pats defense. Michael Lowther was full forward and spent the afternoon taunting the St. Pats full back line. This left plenty of room for Meath minor Neill Heffernan to run into space gather the ball and threaten the St Pats goal.
