SFC Round 1 Simonstown 1-8 Summerhill 0-10 Simonstown performed their own version of 'The Great Escape' against Summerhill in the first round of the Meath SFC in Pairc Tailteann on Sunday, April 15th. With a minute injury time played the team in sky blue trailed by two points - 0-10 to 1-8 - when Evan Kelly struck for a goal to bag maximum points. From a Simonstown perspective it was, of course, a thrilling climax to the opening game of the 2006 championship campaign but spare a thought for Summerhill who appeared to have the two points sown up. The team in sky blue led by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break having tralied by 0-3 to 0-1 with 16 minutes of the first half played. The 'Hill levelled matters within 30 seconds of the resumption but points from Charlie McNulty and substitute Cian McGrath - his first touch of the game - helped restore Simonstown's advantage. Summerhill again drew level with two points in quick succession before going two points ahead in the 25th minute. A Wayne McCarthy free was the Hank Traynor captained outfit's sole reply. An opening round defeat was staring the Navan men in the face before Kelly's late intervention following a delightful pass from substitute Daire Corcoran. Courtesy of www.simonstowngfc.com JFC Round 1 Simonstown 0-9 Skryne 1-6 Despite playing against fourteen men for the majority of the contest, Simonstown had to settle for a share of the spoils against Skryne in this JFC first round clash in Walterstown on Sunday, April 16th. Skryne were reduced to fourteen men five minutes prior to the interval but the team in sky blue were unable to take advantage as they squandered numerous scoring opportunities in the second half. The Colm O'Brien captained outfit trailed by 1-2 to 0-4 at the break but despite their wastefulness in front of the posts appeared to have done enough to get the campaign off to a winning start before the Tara side earned a draw with a late pointed free. Mickey Byrne, Brendan Quinn, Colm O'Brien, David Gormley and Mark McCabe were best for Simonstown.
