Trim footballers came out on top in this absorbing senior quarter-final tie with Dunshaughlin which was high on tension but low on quality. Trim 2-11 Dunshaughlin 0-10 After extra time. For much of the 60 minutes Dunshaughlin were on top, especially in defence, and they must be wondering how they let this game slip from their grasp. For the first 20 minutes they were much more effective than Trim and opened a lead of 0-4 to no score and the Trim supporters were wondering where any scores were going to come from. Paul Gilsenan opened the scoring on the 20 minute mark but Dunshaughlin quickly replied and the teams swapped scores twice again with Trim's last score of the half coming from Mark Gilsenan. Dunshauglin lead by 0-6 to 0-3 at half time and both forward lines were guilty of bad wides and both goalkeepers made super saves in the half. Trim pointed through Richie Fitzsimons early in the second half and Dunshaughlin replied but then Dunshaughlin then proceeded to dominate possession for about ten minutes but hit some dreadful wides. Trim were also helped by another good Brendan Murphy save and a goal line clearance from Frankie Murphy. With Trim not looking likely to make inroads into the three point deficit, a long ball from Darren Fay was flicked by Eoin McGrath unto Paul Gilsenan who coolly slotted the ball past Ronan Gogan for the crucial score of the game. Trim followed up with a Conor O' Keeffe point but Dunshaughlin equalized after sloppy play from Trim. Another Paul Gilsenan free put Trim ahead again but a Niall Kelly 'special', his fourth of the game, gave Dunshaughlin a deserved equalizer. The game was then brought to extra time and the only score of the first half was another Niall Kelly point until Paul Gilsenan was fouled in the last minute and he expertly converted the penalty himself to leave Trim two points ahead at the interval. Early second half points from Michael Lowther, Sean Murphy and Eoin McGrath broke the Dunshaughlin resistance and they had Niall Kelly sent off in the closing stages.
