Kells just pip Rathkenny

Gaeil Colmcille edged out Rathkenny in this exciting Intermediate clash played in Kilberry last Saturday evening.

The Kells side started the stronger and were three points up after nine minutes.
Rathkenny then had a purple patch and by the 19th minute were in front by a point following scores from Richie Timmons (3) and Peadar Farrelly. From this point to the end each side traded point for point going in all square at 0-6 apiece. Rathkenny's scorers were Timmons and Michael McBride.
The second half was a very tight affair with both defences on top. By the 26th minute Rathkenny were leading 0-9 to 0-8 after scores from Michael McBride, David Donegan and Richie Timmons. Kells then got the final two scores. The winning point scored from a close range free in the 2nd of six injury time minutes played. Rathkenny had two further opportunities to equalise but both efforts narrowing going wide. Defeat was cruel on Rathkenny who had upped their performance following the poor showing last day out against St. Colmcilles. Best for Rathkenny were Donal Curtis, Brian Meade, Richie Timmons and David Donegan.
