Blackhall Trimmed

May 18, 2005
Trim senior footballers made it three wins out of three outings in the Senior Championship at the weekend. Trim 2-8 Blackhall Gaels 0-5 Once again they displayed very good defensive qualities in restricting the Gaels to five points over the hour. In a low scoring first half, Blackhall opened the scoring after 10 minutes and it took another 10 minutes before Trim responded. The sides traded points before there was a flurry of scores in the last five minutes of the half. Maudie Power supplied Paul Gilsenan who fed Ronan Fitzsimons and he slotted the ball under the Blackhall keeper. Two minutes later Fitzsimons scored a second goal after good approach work from Eoin McGrath. Blackhall scored two more points to leave the half time score 2-2 to 0-4. The second half was just as close an affair and Blackhall, while getting a lot of possession, uncharacteristically wasted a number of chances. The Trim defence, marshalled by Joe Tighe and Darren Fay were on top throughout. Points from David Hegarty, Paul Gilsenan, and Ronan Fitzsimons left Trim in a commanding lead. Then the best move of the game resulted in an Aaron Fay point which left the result beyond doubt. Best for Trim were Brendan Murphy, David Hegarty, Joe Tighe and Ronan Fitzsimons. Trim - B. Murphy; P. Hegarty, J. Tighe, D. Hegarty (0-1), Richie Fitzsimons, D. Fay, M. Power, Ronan Fitzsimons (2-1), F. Murphy, S. Murphy, C. O'Keeffe, M. Gilsenan E. McGrath (0-2), A. Fay (0-1), P. Gilsenan (0-3). Subs - K. Walsh for A. Fay, J. Conroy for M. Gilsenan.
