MFC Div 5: Silverware for Dunderry

Dunderry claimed the Meath MFC Division 5 title with this seven point win over St. Olivers on Bank Holiday Monday at Pairc Tailteann.

Dunderry 2-13 St. Olivers 0-12

The eventual winners got a great start and were 1-2 to 0-0 ahead inside the opening five minutes. The outstanding Oisin Martyn got the ball rolling with a goal inside a minute and this was quickly followed by points from Dermot Kelly and Cormac Brady. 

St Olivers got themselves back into the game with three pointed frees from the boot of Jack Blake. Blake was to add another three points to the North Meath amalgamation total before the break. Martyn pointed three times before the short whistle to send his team to the dressing room 1-8 to 0-7 in front.

The impressive Blake increased his tally to eight points early in the second half before he was forced to retire from the game with a very serious arm injury. The match was held up for over twenty minutes to treat the corner forward's injury.

Darragh McCaul, Harry Ryan and Matthew Corrigan added points to the Oliver's tally after that hold up and with five minutes remaining only two points separated the teams, 1-11 to 0-12, but Dunderry finished on a high with points from Martyn and Dean Rahill along with a well taken goal from Adam Kelly to seal the win.

After the game Jimmy Henry presented the Division 5 MFC Cup to Dunderry captain Oisin Martyn.

Dunderry scorers: Oisin Martyn 1-4, Dermot kelly 0-4, Adam Kelly 1-1, Ronan Brady, Jamie Leavy, Cormac Brady and Dean Rahill 0-1 each.

St. Olivers scorers: Jack Blake 0-8, Matthew Corrigan, Fergal Gibney, Darragh McCaul and Harry Ryan 0-1 each.
