Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-14  St. Ultan's 1-9

Donaghmore/Ashbourne's second team made it through to the quarter finals of the Intermediate Football Championship with a two point win over St Ultan's at Duleek on Saturday evening. Top scorer Steven Carton who accounted for seven points scored the first point of the game before St Ultan's replied with the only goal of the game. Three more points from Carton along with two from Sam Benville and one each by Kevin Fenton and Cahal Field tied the game at half time 0 - 8 to 1 - 5.

St Ultan's took the lead for a period in the second half but Don/Ash finished strongly to claim their place in the knock-out stages. Steven Carton pointed three frees in the second half with Shane Rae, Sam Benville and James Crumlish also found the target.

St Ultans Report

St Ultans 1-9 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-14 

St Ultans faced Donaghmore Ashbourne on Saturday night in Duleek with both teams seeking points, St Ultans to avoid relation play-offs and Ashbourne to push on to the knockout stages. 

Donaghmore/Ashbourne were first to strike when their corner forward finished well from a tight angle. St Ultans responded with the only goal of the game when centre forward Mark Allen hit the net after a good run. 

Donaghmore/Ashbourne then took control of the game and scored 5 unanswered points to lead by 6 points to a goal. Ultans hit back with 3 points of their own to level the scores a Gearoid Rennicks free and two well taken scores from play firstly from Cian Rennicks and then from Gearoid Rennicks - after he received a good kick pass from Ronan Galligan. The remaining scores off the half were 4 frees 2 from Ashbourne and two from Gearoid Rennicks including one from a narrow angle. 

Donaghmore/Ashbourne opened the scoring in the 2nd half but Ultans responded with 3 from play from Cian Rennicks, Kevin Galligan and Conor Smyth to lead by 2. Ashbourne responded but St Ultans substitute Ronan Breslin split the posts to leave Ultans 2 up approaching the last 10 minutes. This was to be the last score for St Ultans as Donaghmore/Ashbourne started to dominate possession and kick the scores they needed to move into the knockout stages of the Intermediate Championship. Ultans will now face relegation playoff group with Longwood and Ballivor
