Gaeil Colmcille and Rathkenny made the trip to Meath Hill for this Round 5 encounter in the Meath SFC.
The Gaeils registered the first score of the match with the first of eight points from Seamus Mattimoe on the night. Fionn Reilly and Mattimoe stretched Kells lead to 0-03 to 0-01 on 7 minutes. Rathkenny, who let Kells off the hook with some wides from good positions soon found their range and drew level on 10 minutes thanks to two excellently hit points from play leaving it 0-03 a piece.
For the remaining 20 minutes of the half, last years semi finalists would go on to outscore their opponents four points to one thanks to scores from Mattimoe (3) and one from Martin Barrett leaving Kells a 0-07 to 0-04 interval lead.
Ryan Farnham replaced Oisin Reilly early on in the second half and immediately made an impact reacting quick to a bad kickout from the Rathkenny keeper before blasting over the bar. Kells took control of the match and with Lar Wall emptying his bench Fionn Ferguson and Farnham tagged on extra points along with Barrett and Mattimoe and the Gaeils ran out 0-15 to 0-08 winners on the night.
