Bective 5-12 Castletown 0-16
The saying that goals win games was never more evident than on Sunday in Pairc Tailteann when Bective hit five of them against table toppers Castletown despite them scoring 16 points.
Gerry Farrelly opened the Castletowns account in the first minute but then Bective kicked 1-2 in the first ten minutes and added another 2-4 before the break. Further points from Tommy Smith with three, Mark Kelly with two and Shane Hoey with one left the victors 3-6 to 0-7 up at the halftime whistle.
The eventual winners increased their lead with three points in a row to start the second period but Castletown clawed them back with three of their own two from Tommy Smith on 37 and 41 and one from halftime sub James Finnerty on 43mins. Bective then struck again with a point and a goal straight after that to really kill off the tie. Castletowns remaining second half scorers were Tommy Smith with two more Kevin Ross with two and one each for Mark Kelly and Barry Smith. Castletown dropped to second place in the group on score difference with this defeat after three rounds of the 2017 IFC.
Next up for Castletown are Kilmainham in Round 4.
