Gaeil Colmcille 1-17 Duleek/Bellewstown 1-08
Walterstown was the venue for the third round meeting of Gaeil Colmcille and Duleek/Bellewstown played in ideal conditions.
Gaeil Colmcille got the opening score of the match when Seamus Mattimoe pointed after two minutes. On 5 minutes Duleek/Bellewstown took the lead with a goal after good build up in the middle of the pitch to open up a 1-01 to 0-02. Kells responded well to the goal, scoring the next four points in a row pushing two clear with 12 minutes on the clock. Both teams would share the next 8 points until half time with Brian Hanlon and Mattimoe getting two points each, leaving the Gaeil Colmcille men 0-10 to 1-05 up at half time.
Luck was on the winners side after 34 minutes, when Barry Tormay raced down the pitch, and his attempted point with the fist hit the crossbar, only to land in the hands of Hanlon who tapped into an empty net leaving Gaeil Colmcille up by five points 1-11 to 1-06. Duleek/Bellewstown did get the next two points but it would be Kells who would land the last four scores of the match to close out the game and hold out for the win.
Next up for Gaeil Colmcille will be a test against last year's beaten finalists Donaghmore/Ashbourne, while Duleek/Bellewstown will face Wolfe Tones.
