Castletown 3-16 Ballivor 0-7
Castletown got their IFC championship campaign off to the best possible start with this comprehensive victory over Ballivor in Kilmainham on Saturday evening. With the venue in splendid condition Castletown meant business from the start with 3 minutes on the clock county panelist Kevin Ross opened their account with a goal. Kevin scored a point on 9 minutes and Ballivor hit their one and only score of the opening period a point on 10 minutes. The eventual winners were on top virtually all over the field and scored 1-6 without reply before the break, Tommy Smith on 15, Ross 1-1a point on 17 and his second goal on 21 , Darren Finney on 19 and 29, Mark Kelly on 20 and Barry Smith on 28 minutes. To leave it at halftime 2-7 to 0-1.
Shane Farrelly scored the first point of the second half on 32 minutes then Ballivor scored 3 point in a row before Kevin Ross with two more points on 39 and 41, Tommy Smith on 42 minutes and a sweeping move up the field saw Mark Kelly finishing sweetly to the Ballivor net to leave it 3-10 to 4 points to Castletown midway through the second half. With points from Joey Carry on 45, Tommy Smith on 46, Kevin Ross with 2 more points on 53 and 60 minutes with another point from Tommy Smith on 28 minutes left it 3-16 to 0-7 a great start to Castletowns IFC campaign for 2017.
