The Clonard/Longwood Under 14 team at the Feile finals

Junior Teams News

March was a mixed month for our Junior teams. In Division 4A the lads drew with Slane in Clonard, a big improvement on a previous loss to the same opposition by 15 points only a month earlier. A trip to Kilbride was to prove fruitless when a combination of wayward shooting and a hungrier opposition team resulted in a nine-point loss, the first loss of this year's league campaign. The 'B' team had their first outing in Division 5B at Dunsany which also resulted in a 15 point loss to a very strong Dunsany outfit. On a more positive note the forwards did notch 1-10 on the day. The 'A' team's first match in April resulted in a 19-point win over St. Paul's Clonee in Clonard. Another win against Boardsmill on Easter Monday evening would move us into the promotion places and 3rd place in the table. It's a busy week ahead with three games fixed. The 'B' team play Carnaross on Wednesday in Clonard and then the 'A' team travel to Donore on Saturday evening. Good luck lads!

Juvenile News

The clock change has kick-started the Juvenile season with plenty of games now on the calendar, resulting in action for all our various under-age teams.

U7 Academy

The long wait is over for the budding Clonard football stars of the future as the Academy starts on Saturday 22nd April at 10am. This is a great way to encourage an active lifestyle for children at a young age while also acting as a social gathering for parents of young children in the area.

Go-Games U8/U10s

After poor weather cancelled their first two fixtures of 2017 the U8s & U10s finally competed in the Go-Games launch day blitz in Dunganny. They played excellently in games against Gael Colmcille, Duleek\Bellewstown, Carnaross, and Bective. They also played Boardsmill in their first official fixture and again showed off their skills and strengths on a beautiful sunny morning in Boardsmill.  Well done to all involved as the future is certainly bright for Clonard GAA, based on the numbers and performances of all these children.

The Clonard Under 12 team and mentors

U12s

The U12s played their first game of their season against Moynalvey in Clonard and a brilliant first half performance saw them lead 0-6 to 0-3 at half-time. However, Moynalvey's second half display was strong enough for them to take home the 2 points, winning on a final score-line of 0-14 to 0-8.  The boys then played neighbours Longwood in a tremendously exciting game which finished in a draw, 0-13 to 0-13. This is a young team with a positive future as several of the boys are still under 10. Next up for them is Boardsmill away on Saturday. Good luck lads!

U14s

Clonard/Longwood U14s performed in the County Feile last weekend, falling just short of representing Meath in the National Feile later this year. The first day's action on Saturday was in Grangegodden and the boys topped their group to go on and play Ballinabrackey in the preliminary quarter final, which they won on a score-line of 6-06 to 2-06.  That meant a quarter final on Sunday morning in Dunganny against Gaeil Colmcille. A brilliant performance resulted in another great win and a semi-final against St. Peters Dunboyne.  However, the lads fell just short by 5 points and St. Peters went on to win the final against Kilbride. Well done to all the players and coaches, it was great preparation for a tough Division 2 campaign which starts on Thursday in Kells against Gaeil Colmcille. Onwards and upwards lads!

U16s

It has been a perfect start for our U16 amalgamation team with Longwood as they registered three wins fromtheir three games in Division 6 with victories over Boardsmill, Trim and Dunshaughlin. In a round robin 'home and away' group they now play Boardsmill away on Tuesday night at 7pm. Keep it going lads!

U17s

The U17s Clonard/Longwood team continued their campaign, this time it was a disappointing defeat to St. Cuthbert's in a tough match in Longwood. Their final match is against St Pat's of Stamullen on Friday 21st at 7.15pm. Unfortunately, a few narrow defeats have meant knock-out qualification is beyond them, hard luck lads.

U19s

The U19s Clonard/Longwood team occupy second place in Division 3A after an exciting one point win away to Senechalstown. Their final game of the group is against table toppers St. Michael's/Nobber, where a win will guarantee a semi-final place. Best of luck to them.

Development Facility Update

More volunteer work saw the entrance wall and piers recently being capped and plastered and 90 sapling trees were planted. The security fencing was erected left and right of the entrance. The official opening of the walking track was delayed as we continue small jobs to comply with various Health & Safety requirements. However, we hope this will happen in the early May. The pitch and training area got its first grass cuts by the contractor and really looks the part. The club has also just purchased a tractor and mower and we have now started our own cutting of the pitches. This week the septic tank and percolation area will be installed and completed, which will allow the common areas around the site to be rotavated and seeded. The 41 pitch-side signs also get erected around the main pitch this week. Once again well done and a big thanks to all involved, particularly those who are volunteering their own time to assist the club and development.

Registration and Membership

Membership was due by 31st March and anyone yet to renew should contact their coach or a committee member. Social membership for access to our walking track remains available for just €20.

Lotto

In last Monday night's weekly lotto draw in the "Ballyboggan Inn", the numbers drawn were 3, 6, 8, & 14. There was no winner and the jackpot stands at €15,000 (reserve jackpot is €12,400). Shared winners of the €150 draw were Larry Donlon, Nessa McAuley, Des Boland, Nicole Kelly and 'Killer'. Congratulations to all winners and thanks to everyone who supports the draw, and hence the club.  This Monday night the draw takes place in "Paddy's Bar" with the jackpot again standing at €15,000. Remember lotto tickets are only €2 each and if you're not in, you can't win!
