Ballinlough will play in the 2017 Intermediate Football Championship after this SFC Relegation Game 2 defeat to an O'Reilly inspired Wolfe Tones under lights at Carlanstown.

Wolfe Tones 2-17 Ballinlough 1-8

The winners led 0-11 to 0-4 at the break. Ballinlough were first to score through Emmet Smith but between the 7th and 20th minute Wolfe Tones sent over eight unanswered points with Thomas O'Reilly accounting for six of those scores. Kevin Devine pointed two frees to narrow the gap before the break.

A well taken Niall McLoughlin goal early in the second half put the Tones well in control. Ballinlough did respond with a goal from the penalty spot through Peadar Byrne. With ten minutes remaining and eight points between the teams, 1-14 to 1-6, Thomas O'Reilly put the game to bed when his powerful shot found the back of the Ballinlough net.

The O'Reilly's, Thomas and Niall, counted for 1-15 of the 'Tones' total. Thomas hit 1-12 while Niall scored three fine points.

Wolfe Tones and Duleek Bellewstown can plan for the 2017 senior football championship while Ballinlough's short term, they won the Intermediate in 2013, comes to an end.
