SFC: Gaeils set up semi final clash with Gaels

Gaeil Colmcille qualified for their second hoganstand.com Meath senior football championship semi final in a row with this well deserved quarter final victory over last years finalists Na Fianna in ideal conditions at Lomans Park Trim.

The Kellsmen control most of this game and went in at the break 1-9 to 0-8 in front. Brian Hanlon got the winners goal from the penalty spot after a great run by the outstanding Fionn Reilly at the heart of the Na Fianna defence. 

With five minutes gone in the second half Lar Wall's charges extended their lead with a second goal from Oisin Reilly to open up a 2-10 to 0-8 gap and put the Gaeils in control for the remainder of the game.

Gaeil Colmcille will take on Simonstown Gaels in the semi final next Saturday in Pairc Tailteann. The teams met in the 2014 and 2015 SFC. Simonstown won two years ago 3-12 to 1-12 while Gaeil Colmcille got revenge in 2015 with a 2-12 to 1-9 win in Paddy O'Brien Park.

The kells outfit will have to plan for the semi final without influential midfielder Cormac Keegan who picked up a red card in the closing stages of the game.

Best for the winners were Johnny Quigley, Liam Ferguson, Keith Reilly, Seanie Curran, top scorer Brian Hanlon and the Reilly brothers Oisin and Fionn.
